Knee Replacement- Understanding your Outcomes

Mr Walsh wants you to feel reassured and confident about your outcomes from knee replacement surgery and is therefore happy to publish his data from My Clinical Outcomes in partnership with Circle Health. They use the Oxford Knee Score to show improvements form your surgery, using a trusted questionnaire that patients complete to rate their pain and ability to do everyday activities.

• The score ranges from 0 to 48. 
• Higher scores mean better knee function and less pain.

What the scores generally mean: 

• 0  –19:      Severe knee problems 
• 20–29:      Moderate to severe knee problems 
• 30–39:      Mild to moderate knee problems 
• 40–48:      Excellent knee function

Our Patients’ Results From our latest clinical review: 

• Before surgery (pre-operative):
  Average Oxford Knee Score = 23.01
  (based on 469 patients)
  This reflects moderate to severe knee pain and difficulty with daily activities – typical for patients needing knee replacement.

• 12 months after surgery:
  Average Oxford Knee Score = 40.95
  (based on 169 patients who returned for follow-up)
  This is in the excellent range, showing most patients have much less pain and greatly   improved function.

This represents an average improvement of almost 18 points – a change widely recognised as very meaningful for patients.
